We just returned from the BEST family weekend at Tenaya Lodge, which is the perfect family Winter getaway with a little flavor of everything to keep everyone entertained. From Fresno it is a very easy drive, just over 1 hour from door to door. We arrived Friday evening and were greeted with such a warm welcome. It was such a special treat to have a bottle of wine awaiting us in our room along with a s'more kit. After settling in we headed to dinner at Jackalope's Grill. There are 4 restaurants on the property along with a deli for snacks and grab and go food. Tenaya Lodge is a 4 Diamond resort but what stands out is the staff which is kind, friendly, warm and accommodating. Our meal was delicious and the service was exceptional. After dinner we headed down to the grand fire pit to roast marshmallows and chow down on s'mores. It's quite the magical experience to roast mallows amongst the snow and under the stars. Following our fun treat we changed to head to the indoor hot tub, which is one of the best amenities at Tenaya Lodge. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub as well but they are closed for the Winter season. There are not too many places where you can go swimming when it's snowing outside but Tenaya has that option for you. We visited every day we were there and it was a highlight for the kids. Right off of the indoor pool is a spectacular game room with video games, huge televisions, air hockey, pool tables and games. We had every intention of coming to play at least a game of air hockey but there was so much to do we only peaked in to check it out.
On Saturday morning we pigged out at the breakfast buffet at Sierra Restaurant; again our waitress was just lovely. I then departed from the family to enjoy a few quiet hours in the Ascent Spa. The facility is grand, calming and inviting; it was basically a mother's Disneyland. I had the Winter Warming 60 minute massage which was absolutely heavenly. I haven't been that relaxed in well 7 years, lol! Following the massage I enjoyed a cup of spiked hot chocolate in the relaxation room followed by reading magazines in the steam room. The spa has showers and well equipped locker rooms to freshen up after any service. There is also a sauna that guests can use at any time during their stay.
While I spent some alone time daddy took the kids to the heated indoor pool for some fun. When we met back up we enjoyed lunch and then headed outside for sledding and snowball fights. You don't even have to leave the property to enjoy such activities. That is one of the best parts of the resort is having everything right at your fingertips. At dusk we all went ice skating under the twinkle lights of the rink while listening to the latest music hits. Madi couldn't help herself dancing and skating at the same time. The entire weekend was quite magical but this takes the cake. Both girls absolutely loved it and on our way home they said this was their favorite part ("along with spending time together as a family in the mountains"). The rink even has ice walkers to help beginner skaters. After skating we went back to the jacuzzi to warm up and relax.
Sunday morning included a buffet breakfast again and playing in the snow. We took one last trip to the pool and spa before heading home. None of us were ready to go home because we had the best time. If you're looking for a quick and easy getaway I highly recommend Tenaya Lodge. Now through March 31st the resort is offering their Unlimited Winter Fun Pass which gives you access to several activities (hikes, ice skating, sled rental, bike ride and archery) with a $46 savings. Also Tenaya Lodge has guided bus tours into Yosemite which is a bonus right now during the government shut down.
There are a few activities we didn't get to like the Nature Hike, Archery, and Flashlight Hike. Our little ones are just a tad too little for these activities but also our time was completely filled with so many other options. Tenaya Lodge is the perfect spot to go to relax but also keep you entertained around the clock. We can not wait until our next trip up the hill!
In case you're planning your Summer vacation now I want to mention the brand new Explorer Cabins that are coming this Summer to Tenaya Lodge. They are two bedroom cabins nestled along a creek and pond just next to the lodge. Guests will still have access to have the resort amenities including spa, fitness center, game room and pools but they will also have exclusive access to the Explorer Clubhouse. The cabins will make guests feel like they are miles away from civilization but with all the Four Diamond amenities. I can't wait for our family to stay in one of the Explorer Cabins!
